Back In Sydney

It was quite funny.  The first thing I thought about Sydney, other than being home (only if for a very brief moment in time) was that the the air was way too polluted.  It almost felt like my lungs were going to collapse from taking the smallest breathe in.  It's either that, or I'm becoming way too accustomed to Adelaide life.  (In other news, Shopping Centres are starting to scare me, because I'm only used to malls - think Pitt Street Mall)

I've finally actually started having a break, even after being back in Sydney for 5 days.  Jen's Kitchen Tea ran smoothly (or as smooth as it could have gone, seeing as I was running the show, and I've only ever attended 1 other Kitchen Tea), I've re-cleaned the house after all the festivities, and I've almost caught up on sleep.  If only my body could decide whether it wanted to be sick or well, but hey, we can't have everything.  Meanwhile I've only just realised I have another 6 days in Sydney, to relax, meet up with a couple of friends, and finish of assignments and study for exams and other bits and pieces before going back to Adelaide.  I'm feeling rather overwhelmed by it all.  Although, hopefully after tomorrow, all my tension headaches will cease and desist, after my masseuse works out all the knots and tightness in my neck, shoulders and back.  I have rather noisy bones.  I can crack my neck and make it sound all nasty.  It's even worse than cracking your knuckles!  *shudders*

With all this rainy weather, I just want to stay inside, wrapped in my doona, with a hot chocolate with those little floating marshmellows, and a good movie on.  That sounds like bliss.

Day-Dreaming...

After my exam today (yay another one down, only 4 more to go!), I went to my local park and just sat in the swing for a good 30 minutes.  Now, before I go on,  those swings just aren't made for older people - my butt was just tired after sitting in it, so that either means I've grown too big, or my butt is just too fat. hmmm~

Meanwhile, whilst sitting on this swings, just sort of swinging (as one does on a swing set), I noticed that it really was a beautiful day.  It was bright and sunny, with blue skies and a few wisps of white clouds that really did look like trails of cotton wool.  Anyway,  I thought it would have been a perfect day for a picnic.  And I don't just mean one of those picnics where you BYO lunch for one and sit on the grass.  But the kind that have been fully planned out, and there's food a plenty of cold salads, and range of cold meats, and all sorts of special treats.  With a giant blanket that can fit everybody, and games a plenty to be played.

I'd even love to have one of those olden day picnics, where the whole town went along to the local park, and the women would stand around and gossip about so and so, daintily holding their parasols.  Children would be in the background playing with the younger ladies, and playing croquet, and other games, while the men would  (actually, I don't remember what men did).

Yes yes, I love day-dreaming.  It just seems so wonderful.  It's either that it is, or that anything else would seem wonderful when exams are here.

Inventions

Somebody must create a new invention. Why?  Here's the background:

Every exam period, I go through the laborious task of handwriting my notes, because, that's the way I learn best.  I highly envy those of you who can learn by typing or reading and highlighting, but alas, I can't.  And after each exam period, my poor right hand looks like it's gone through a washing machine and a dryer.  My poor index finger no longer is able to maintain it's rounded state, but has this hard calloused area and an almost permanent pen indentation.  My 3rd finger, has a calous where the pen rests, and is almost permanently reddened (as does my thumb actually). And to add to all of this, my poor poor pinky, is rubbed raw red from being dragged along  paper after paper.  It's almost so shiny that i can see a vague reflection in it.

Now, this is why a new invention should be created.  Something where i can write, but not have to write or use less energy in writing.  That way, hands won't get tired, and uglified in the process.

But for now, the cycle must continue: and although i think my pain tolerance has increased, and well, also due to the cold i can barely feel my hand as it makes it's chicken scrawl over each line,  the writing must continue.  I wonder if it's too late to try learning in a different style.  Pity that  would be a method of procrastination, which, i definately don't want to do right now. (although, one could make mention of why I'm complaining on my xanga *raises eyebrows*

Looking Forward to Holidays

But, not exactly for the reason you think...

Sure Holidays are great! I get to go back to Sydney, see family, help plan and go to all my sisters wedding bits and pieces (granted, I'm organising them too), see friends and what not.  But honestly, the reason why I'm looking forward most to holidays, is so that I can escape this blasted cold weather!  Tops of 14 during the day - which ain't warm, unless your rugged up like a roly poly polar bear, and lows of 0.2 (yes, that's near freezing pont) overnight.  I've decided that Adelaide gets much too cold.

Though, a couple of days it was fun.  There was this thin-ish layer of frost on the backyard, and, I was stomping all through it.  But the most fantastic part of it was, that it didn't melt.  Uno how when you walk across it you leave tracks and it sorta melts into this sloppy wet mush, well, this was frozen quite nicely, so i could walk, make vague imprints, but no slushiness ensued.  That was pretty cool I thought.

But other than that - and other than the fact that by the time holidays come around, exams will be finished... stupid 7 exams... and I get to kinda half go on a break - discounting the fact that I'll have to study - who in their right mind puts an exam first week back of Semester 2!?

In other news - the big bad knife sliced by poor defenceless hand last night whilst cutting up the chicken. *sad face*. Ouchies.

Random Piece of Information.

Now, as part of SwotVac (for all you Sydney-siders who read this, StuVac) snacking is an essential part of studying, as we all well and truly know.  Now, having gotten sick of the usual chocolate and chip variety of junk, and now moving into a house where very very rarely we even have such foods in the pantry, I've now started snacking on slightly healthier options, like fruit, and vegetables (a carrot is oddly satisfying) and dips and dry crackers.  But one of my favourites right now is nuts, the roasted with the slight dash of salt.

Meanwhile, after watching Oprah (yes, my studying is going, 'oh so well') I've found that my new found snack food ain't too great.  Well, it would be, if it wasn't roasted and salted, because "by roasting, it makes the good oil turn bad".  Scarily enough, those are the words of a world famous (apparently) cardiologist in America.  *sad sigh*  So now, i'm trying to happily munch away on a dry, virgin, non-roasted or salted nut.  And although it's helping with the stress- the whole, lets just crunch away, it's just lacking somewhat it's tastiness... Although I have no doubts that soon, I will forget what a roasted nut would taste like.
